3 | 3 | laforge | The so-called [[V5_Interface]] was specified by ETSI and ITU as a standardized, interoperable interface between the heart of a digital telephone switch and (possibly remote) access multiplexers. The exchange side is called LE (Local Exchange) and the access multiplexer is called AN (Access Network). |

5 | The access and exchange sides are interconnected over an E1 (ISDN PRI) interface, speaking the protocol stack of the [[V5_Interface]] on one or multible 64k signalling channels, and carry subscriber circuits as 64k B-channels. |
