Description

The mobility features that we recently added to Open5GS and OsmoPCU were developed and tested against TTCN3 testsuites, but we didn't confirm the functionality on real hardware yet.

To do this we need to create a setup with an OsmoBTS/OsmoPCU based GERAN cell and an appropriate EUTRAN ENB that is controlled by Open5GS. In order to be able to trigger the cell change it may be required to equip the transmittig antennas of both radios with variable attenuators.

dexter Are you interesting in trying to do this at DevCon ?

keith It would be interesting to try it. The configuration shouldn't be a problem but we would certainly need a working open5GS setup. So far I used only parts open5GS in the test environment. We could use very low transmission power and unscrew the TX antennas to trigger the re-selection of the RAN.

FYI when I test mobility I set my test phone (Fairphone2, but probably doesn't matter) to "Prefer 2G" and then attach to the network.
After it has gotten a PDP Context I switch to "Prefer LTE" and can observe the phone doing a TAU on the LTE cell.
Testing 4G -> 2G should work in reverse.

There's still open issues about this, see also https://github.com/open5gs/open5gs/issues/3160 and #6294
