Usenet via NNTP

UseNet is a distributed, text messsage-based discussion forum network, similar in concept to what Fido, Z-Netz and other BBS networks did at the time. For more information see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Usenet

UseNet in the pre-internet / pre-IP days was accessed via UUCP (which in turn runs over dial-up phone lines).

Later on, as IP access became more widespread, the NNTP protocol was used by newsreader client software to read and post in the network.

NNTP in Osmocom Retro-Networking

At the moment, we don't plan to run INN or any of the classic news server software packages. However, Synchronet BBS supports access to the BBS bulletin boards via NNTP.
