after we page a MS and receive the PAGING RESPONSE, we just simply close the channel. according to the radio interference, the MS continues to transmit for quite some time after that. we probably need to tell it to close the channel?

This is determined by the downlink SACCH + radio link timeout. If the MS doesn't receive a valid downlink SACCH for more than "radio link timeout" SACCH periods, it has to release the channel locally. See Section 3.4.13.2.1 of 3GPP TS 48.018.
